Magnus Walker turbocharges his love for the Porsche 911

Magnus Walker, a Porsche 911 fanatic, has set his sights on the early 911 Turbo.

He's had his fill of early, long-hood Porsche 911s - he owns at least one from each model year, from 1964 to 1973 - so Magnus Walker, a fanatic of the Stuttgart, Germany-based automaker, recently set his sights on the early Porsche 930, as documented by this XCAR video called 'Turbo Fever.' Let us translate: pretty soon Walker will own all of the earliest, non-intercooled 911 Turbos - at least one from each model year, starting at 1975 and ending at 1977 (though the 1975 911 Turbo Carrera never officially was imported to the US by Porsche, so it'll be tougher to find one Stateside).

Any Porsche enthusiast can tell you why they love their car, and it often comes down to the small details that differentiate one model year from another. One of many examples is the mid-'80s 928. They look similar, but the basic difference between a 1984 Porsche 928 S and a 1985 928 S (US-spec) is two camshafts and 54 horsepower, though each car's V8 has its own pros and cons. We'll let Magnus Walker tell you all about the 930 and what makes the first three years special, as he's becoming quite the expert on early, air-cooled 911s. When the nearly 15-minute mini-documentary was filmed, which you can view below, he already had added four early 930s to his collection!

Magnus Walker pops up again, this time with his Irish Green 911

Magnus Walker talks about his Irish Green 1966 Porsche 911 in a video by XCAR.

He was the subject of a short film called Urban Outlaw. He has been on Jay Leno's Garage. Twice. He even graced the cover of Road & Track in June. And after all of that, he appeared in a video by Hong Kong-based Silly Thing. So it isn't really surprising that Magnus Walker is at the center of attention in the latest video from XCAR, but it's surprising - and a treat - to see his mostly original Irish Green 1966 Porsche 911.

Powered by an air-cooled 2.0-liter flat six with 130 horsepower (more like 120 hp today, Walker says), riding on 5.5-inch wide wheels and turned with a wooden steering wheel, the little green 911 does represent some of the best aspects of classic car motoring.

Head on below to watch the long-form video on Walker and his Porsche, but if your time is limited, you're not missing much if you call it quits at five minutes - especially if you've seen his aforementioned videos before.

Magnus Walker soliloquizes in his Porsche 911 at night

Magnus Walker drives his 1971 911 hot rod in his latest video by Obscura.

Magnus Walker, a prolific Los Angeles clothing designer who has also carved out a respected spot for himself in Porsche world, has had yet another video made about him and his sizable Porsche collection. In this latest video, Hong Kong-based Obscura magazine focuses its video cameras on Walker and his 1971 Porsche 911 track car (yes, the one that appeared on Jay Leno's Garage) as he speeds around Downtown LA and Little Tokyo late at night.

We've heard Walker's story many times before. He's not like the average Porsche owner, perhaps a tad more passionate than most, and he builds 911s like he designs clothes: his way. Sure, we might be a little envious, but can you blame us? View this very slick and entertaining nighttime video entitled Disturbing The Peace below.

Jay Leno chats with Magnus Walker about his 1972 Porsche 911 72STR

Magnus Walker's 1972 Porsche 911 72STR pictured in Jay Leno's Garage

Magnus Walker has stopped by the Big Dog Garage again to pay Jay Leno a visit in the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage. This time, the Porsche builder brought along his 1972 911 72STR 002. Walker calls the machine his best build to date, and the car is a rolling "best of" from Porsches past, rocking some of the more attractive elements pulled from a wide arc of 911 model years. Of course, the machine also wears a few signature Walker touches, including flush-mount turning indicators, a center-hood fuel filler and plenty of louver work.

Unlike some of Walker's other creations, the 72STR 002 is clean enough to lick. Leno seems suitably impressed with the creation, and while apparently isn't typically a fan of Porsche models in general, Walker's tastefully modified 911 has him singing a different tune. You can check out the car in the video below.

Magnus Walker checks in to Jay Leno’s Garage with his Porsche 911T

Magnus Walker Porsche 911T

It turns out Jay Leno is as much a fan of Magnus Walker and his work as we are. The comedian and TV personality caught the Urban Outlaw short film online and gave Walker an invitation to stop by the Big Dog Garage with one of his tweaked Porsche 911 models. The designer brought out his 1971 911T for a closer look. The car is basically a streetable track machine, complete with Hoosier rubber. Walker uses the car to sprint up to Laguna Seca, crank out a track day and run back to Los Angeles, which means this machine is about as far from a trailer queen as they get.

Leno seemed impressed by Walker's creation, saying the 911T is remarkably balanced. Some builders fall into the easy trap of shoving ludicrous power into a classic car, but this old Porsche remains light on its feet with every horse accessible and usable. As if we need an excuse to love this machine any more than we already do. Check out the video below to see what we mean.

Watch the entire 30-minute Urban Outlaw documentary

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of sharing with you a short film called Urban Outlaw, which detailed some of the life and cars of iconoclastic Porschephile Magnus Walker. The original three-minute film, by director Tamir Moscovici, was impeccably shot and well worth your time if you are even the slightest bit interested in old 911s.

The small project gained enough momentum to turn in to a larger one, it seems, and Moscovici's short video has now given life to a 30-minute film. The fuller version of Urban Outlaw debuted at the Raindance Film Festival in London, and is now available to watch from the comfort of your own computer. Sit back, grab your Porsche hat, dim the lights and enjoy the complete story by scrolling down below.
