eBay Find of the Day: Unrestored Herbie Love Bug movie car

Well before Cars ever hit the screens, The Love Bug series of Disney films - starring Herbie the VW Beetle with a mind of its own - was an early introduction to cars and racing for many budding auto fans. Not the modern remake starring Lindsay Lohan mind you, but the originals from the '60s and '70s. Now, a seller in Texas claims to be offering a chance to own one of the Bugs from the films on eBay Motors.

How Hollywood furthered our automotive obsession [w/videos]

Generally, General Lee

The car enthusiast's passion generally isn't founded in any single experience. It is a result of many influences, coming from places like our parents, our surrounding area's culture and, almost always, the media.

The automobile plays both major and minor roles in nearly every movie and TV show known to mankind. Today the editors at Autoblog and AOL Autos are paying homage to a few of these, acknowledging the ones that stand out in our minds as having played a profound part in forming our ardor for all things automotive.

Head on past the jump to see the cars from the big and small screen for which our staff still pines. And make sure to tell us about your favorite movie/TV cars, in Comments.

What if all famous movie cars had to be cheap?

Unconventional Heroes by Gerald Bear

Hero cars in films need to be sexy. It's why Doc Brown and Marty went back in time in a DeLorean, and why Bo and Luke Duke tore about Hazzard County in a Dodge Charger. The stars of the show need to get about in something cool.

Artist Gerald Bear seems to disagree with this notion, as his latest series of illustrations, Unconventional Heroes, shows. He's taken the look of famous cars from both the big and small screen and applied their appearance to far, ahem, more humble offerings.

Starsky and Hutch's Ford Gran Torino is transformed into a Fiat Panda, while Speed Racer's Mach 5 takes the form of a BMW Isetta bubble car. Niki Lauda's Ferrari Formula One car, though, is subjected to the funniest transformation, although Optimus Prime's latest form is pretty humorous, as well.

Take a look below at the gallery of images, and be sure to let us know which is your favorite.

Buick Regal Grand National documentary Black Air coming in August

Black Air, the documentary on the Buick Grand National, is set for release on December 11 of this year. On August 4, however, the first 20 minutes of the film will be screened at the at the national meet of the Buick Performance Group in Hebron, Ohio.

The film, by Andrew Fillipone, Jr., looks at a car that is as much of an anomaly now as it was during the years it was built, from 1984 to 1987. The Regal Grand National, a boxy black coupe that still sported Buick portholes emitting the superheated air from a 3.8-liter turbocharged V6, had little to say to its brethren like the Buick Century, Skylark and Park Avenue. And any speaking it did do was usually centered around tire smoke and bystanders gasping, "Golly..."

You can watch the trailer below. And if you're near the National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio on August 4, you know whose party to crash.
