Ugly Moto Ducati Print

Ugly Moto is a horrible name for a company that makes such wonderful motorcycle art. The creation of artist Francis Ooi, the company's illustrations focus on some of the iconic racing bikes of the 1960s and 1970s.

The artwork has an elegant simplicity that really makes it pop. It would fit just about anywhere from a home office to the bedroom of a young gearhead. Ooi has completed six illustrations so far covering classic cycles from Honda, Ducati, Yamaha and even Harley-Davidson. According to his site, the Suzuki RGB500 ridden by Barry Sheene will be the next one released. All of the prints are priced at $65 and are limited to 100 copies. They are all about 16.53 inches by 23.58 inches in size.

According to his website, these prints are just a hobby for Ooi and his real career is as the creative director at an ad agency. He creates the illustrations on his Mac, and he estimates that each design with about 800 components and layers takes about a month to complete. You can get idea of the process involved in the time-lapse video below.

Tour the Ducati museum with Google Maps

Ducati Museum

Google Maps and Street View have done a fabulous job adding motoring museums to their catalogs. Google has given visitors the chance to virtually visit fantastic exhibitions including the Honda Collection Hall, Lamborghini museum, Mazda museum and McLaren Technology Centre. The latest addition to the list is the Ducati Museum in Borgo Panigale, Bologna, Italy.

The 850-square-meter (9,149-square-foot) museum displays more than 40 motorcycles around a central, helmet-shaped theater and tells the entire history of Ducati from its beginning through modern MotoGP racing bikes. Rooms off to the sides focus on specific points in the brand's history, such as its use of desmodromic valves on its motorcycles. Google really got into the details and even scanned the gift shop.

The museum claims that it already attracts 40,000 visitors a year, and being available on Google Street View is going to show it to the world. Scroll down to visit an embedded version of the museum and read the press release below.

Restoring 50’s Italian single-cylinder motorcycles is a labor of love

Petrolicious: Simple Meaning

As we've explained before, we have a soft spot for small, funky motorcycles. We've expressed our admiration for cafe racers and their culture, and while those modded bikes are extremely cool, we may have just discovered another niche of even more interesting two-wheeled contraptions, thanks to the team at Petrolicious.

On this week's video, there's a visit with Hugo Gallina, the owner of Vintage Italian Restoration in southern California. Gallina specializes not in the traditional Italian motorcycles - Ducati, Moto Guzzi or MV Agusta - but in the smaller, seriously vintage (think 1950s) single-cylinder bikes from little known or long forgotten brands like Benelli, Gilera, or even Maserati (yes, that Maserati). These tiny bikes are kind of like the Honda Grom of their day.

Really, if you're interested in a different era of motoring (or even motorcycling, as it were), this latest Petrolicious video is really worth a watch. Check it out by scrolling down.

‘Born of a Blue Sky’ brings the Amelia Island Concours to you

The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance has more clout every year and is getting a reputation as Pebble Beach minus the madness. Held in March this year, it celebrated Ducati and the 50-year anniversaries of Lamborghini, the Corvette Sting Ray, Porsche 911 and the Ford GT40.

Justin Lapriore was there, and seemingly everywhere, getting footage of the various wares on display on the lawns and the sand and the runway. The resulting video, Born of a Blue Sky, is a 16-minute survey of some of the finer sights and plenty of engine sounds. Check it out below.
